Alright, Tony Price reporting for duty once again at our beloved Red Rocks! Friday, April 11th, and the headliner was Elderbrook. I'd heard a few of his tracks online – a nice blend of electronic and indie vibes – so I was curious to see how it would translate to the live Red Rocks experience.
The weather was pretty agreeable that night. A bit of a cool breeze, but nothing too harsh. Perfect for layering up and enjoying some good tunes under the vast Colorado sky.
Elderbrook, aka Alexander Kotz, definitely brought a unique energy to the stage. It wasn't the full-on rave of some electronic acts, nor was it the mellow introspection of others. It was this really cool blend of electronic beats, soulful vocals (often his own, which was impressive!), and a really engaging stage presence. He seemed genuinely into the music, and that energy definitely spilled out into the crowd.
His music has this way of building. He'll start with something kind of understated and then layer in these intricate electronic sounds and his powerful vocals, creating these really captivating soundscapes. There were moments that made you want to dance, and other moments where you just wanted to close your eyes and get lost in the atmosphere.
The crowd seemed to be really connecting with it. Lots of swaying, some dancing, and a really appreciative vibe. It felt like a mature and engaged audience, really soaking in the nuances of his sound.
The visuals were also quite well done. They weren't overly flashy, but they were atmospheric and really complemented the music. Lots of cool lighting effects that played off the natural beauty of the rocks, creating this immersive experience.
Now, if I had to offer a little bit of Tony's thoughtful observations… well, maybe at times the energy dipped a little. It wasn't a constant barrage of high-energy beats, which for some might have felt a little less "Red Rocks-y" in the traditional sense. But for me, it was a nice change of pace. It showed that you can have a really compelling and engaging electronic show without relying solely on massive drops and relentless energy.
Overall, Elderbrook at Red Rocks was a really enjoyable and well-crafted performance. He brought a sophisticated and engaging blend of electronic and indie sounds to that incredible stage. It was a night for appreciating the artistry and the atmosphere, and it definitely left me with a good feeling. Tony Price, signing off – feeling a little more musically refined tonight!
