Alright, Tony Price back in the saddle! This time, we're talking about a Thursday night at Red Rocks with L’Impératrice. Now, this was a bit of a different vibe from the bass-heavy nights we've had recently, and you know what? Tony Price is all about expanding his horizons!
The weather was pretty cooperative that night, if I recall correctly. A nice, cool evening – perfect for soaking in some sophisticated sounds under the stars. And L’Impératrice? Man, these guys (and gal!) brought a whole different kind of energy to the Rocks.
It wasn't the kind of jump-up-and-down, lose-your-mind energy of a bass show. This was more of a smooth, groovy kind of energy. Think of it like a really stylish, funky dance party that somehow ended up in the middle of these giant red rocks. The music was just so… cool. It had this French disco feel, all smooth vocals, funky basslines, and these shimmering synth sounds that just washed over you.
The lead singer, Flore Benguigui, she's got this incredible stage presence. So elegant and charismatic. You couldn't help but be drawn in by her energy and her voice. The whole band was tight, every instrument just locked in, creating this really polished and infectious sound.
The crowd was definitely feeling it too. Lots of swaying, a bit of dancing, but it was more of a sophisticated groove than a mosh pit. It was the kind of show where you could close your eyes and just let the music transport you somewhere else – maybe a chic Parisian club, or a cool rooftop party overlooking the city.
The visuals were also really interesting. They had these retro-inspired graphics and lights that really complemented the music. It wasn't the laser show intensity of some other acts, but it was stylish and added to the overall sophisticated feel of the performance.
Now, if I had to put on my "constructive criticism" hat for a second… well, maybe for someone who's used to a more high-octane Red Rocks experience, it might have felt a little… subdued? There weren't those huge drops or moments of absolute sonic chaos. But for me, it was a welcome change of pace. It showed the versatility of the venue and the different kinds of music that can really shine there.
Overall, L’Impératrice at Red Rocks was a breath of fresh air. It was a chance to experience a different kind of energy, a more refined and groovy sound. It was the kind of show that makes you feel a little bit cooler just for being there. If you're looking for something beyond the usual Red Rocks fare, something sophisticated and fun, then L’Impératrice is definitely worth checking out. Tony Price, signing off – feeling a little more cultured tonight!
